Qigong - what it is

Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that combines movement, meditation, and breath control to cultivate and balance the body's vital energy, known as "qi." The term "qi" (equivalent to the Indian prana) refers to the life force or energy that flows through the body and is vital for maintaining health and well-being and to develop human potentialities.

Qigong encompasses a wide range of exercises and techniques that aim to enhance the flow of qi and promote harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. These practices include gentle movements, postures, breath control, mind activities, meditation and principles of life.

The primary goal of practicing Qigong is to cultivate and balance the body's qi, promoting health, vitality, and a sense of overall well-being. When the qi flows smoothly and harmoniously through the body, it supports physical, mental, and emotional health, while imbalances or blockages in the qi can lead to illness, stress, and other health issues.

Qigong has a long history in Chinese culture and is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts. It has been practiced for thousands of years and has various styles and schools, each with its own set of exercises and theories. Qigong is commonly used as a self-healing practice, a way to maintain health and prevent illness, and as a complement to medical treatments in traditional Chinese medicine. Beyond these purposes of general wellness, Qigong is a powerful way to develop the potentials of each person, including the spiritual development.
